An open letter to my Senators

I sent the following to my Senators from Maine:

Dear Senators Snowe and Collins,

Recently I've read and heard many smart people come up with very logical answers to very difficult problems; Health care, the deficit, the war in Afghanistan , etc.. Congress doesn't hear any of these ideas, if they do, they refuse to proceed with them. The majority of the public doesn't hear them either, because they may not be aware of these ideas or if they are aware, they believe the propaganda being broadcast against the ideas.

The biggest problem that the U.S. is grappling with today is Health care. To have it or not to have it that is the question? The answer is to have it. Why? It's simple. Every advanced industrial nation in the world has universal health care. Having it has reduced their costs, as nations, and improved their population's overall health, which in itself reduces costs. Is the United States so self-centered that it can't use other countries ideas? We've seen how successful other plans are, Let's use them. Almost all of the countries that instituted universal health care had the same problems that we are having with the insurance and the pharmaceutical industries. Nobody wants change. In Switzerland , which has a huge pharma industry, they have universal health care and pharma is thriving as never before. Their insurance industry is not for profit, but the managements compete with each other, because the more customers they get the more money the management makes. The only way that they can get more customers is through better service and lower premiums.

For the United States , universal health care is the smart road to take, and morally, the only road. Why not be a heroine to future generations? Vote for universal health care. You will go down in history as a leader of the people and for the people.

I quote Leo Tolstoy:

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed an idea of them already, but the simplest thing can not be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him."

Please keep an open mind..

Thank you, Sincerely yours,

Bob Bregman is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, Class of '51. He is probably not the youngest author on SearchWarp (might be the oldest), just an old sea dog. He flew B-29's during the Korean conflict. He spent 25 years in Wall Street as a trader. He then went into the corporate world, a very ugly place. Cheating, lying, stealing and bribery were SOP from DuPont to Exxon. He retired in 1990 and went back to trading. Oiy! So then he went to selling computers, it was lonely trading. Selling was more fun. Then he sold Nissans, Hondas, and finally Fords. That was fun. Started to get old so he retired again. Now writing, because he's really irritated with his country's direction as personified by the Republicans & Tea Party horn blowing.
