Immigration; What’s the Big Fuss About?

Here’s another perspective on a red hot subject. Think it through to see where you come out.

Arizona, the last state to join the lower 48 in 1912, thinks it would like to leave the wild west, but it can’t seem to lose its vigilante type image. They are going to take care of the immigration problem, if it is a problem, all by themselves.

One of the interesting facts about Arizona is that only about 15% of its 113,000 sq miles of land is privately owned, the rest is national parks, land trusts, state land and Indian Reservations. Almost 70% of the state’s population lives in the Phoenix Metro Area. The major breakdown of the population is 58% White and 30% Hispanic or Latino. The order of population settlement in the state was of coarse the Native Americans first, the Hispanics next and then the whites. So the white people are the interlopers in the state. Isn’t that interesting? By the way, about 8% of the population is illegal immigrants, who generally come over the border to get jobs so that they can send money home to their families. The jobs that they take are generally not wanted by the whites. They mostly consist of picking cotton, laborers at construction projects, and landscape laborers. If they are lucky, they get to work in the copper mines. Arizona has welcomed these people for years and as I said above, they were here first.

So, I guess the big fuss is about drugs and the killings that are going on over the drug lords fighting for territory. I for one don’t think that fight has anything to do with immigration. It’s purely political. Make the Democrats look as if they are doing nothing about the immigration problem, when that’s not the problem. Their ancestors were here first, it’s a drug problem, and so far each state has been chipping in to fight the problem, without much success. America has always been a country with open borders. We still are a nation of immigrants. Why change now? We thrive with the new blood that comes into our country. It renews us. Most of the immigrants are hard working, God fearing people. They will make good citizens, ask some of Arizona’s citizens what they think of the Hispanic work ethic.

He flew B-29's during the Korean conflict. He spent 25 years in Wall Street as a trader. He then went into the corporate world, a very ugly place. Cheating, lying, stealing and bribery were SOP from DuPont to Exxon. He retired in 1990 and went back to trading. Oiy! So then he went to selling computers, it was lonely trading. Selling was more fun. Then he sold Nissans, Hondas, and finally Fords. That was fun. Started to get old so he retired again. Now writing, because he's really irritated with his country's direction as personified by the Republicans & Tea Party horn blowing.

It's my understanding this fuss is about illegals crossing the border and causing havoc. It has little to do with the fact illegals are working in jobs whites do not want. The mayhem being caused is a detriment to those who live there no matter their race. Wanting to keep their state a safer place to live isn't unreasonable, is it?

Grace, thanks for the feedback. It's my belief that the illegals are not causing the havoc, it's the drug runners. That's a problem all over the United States not just in Arizona. You're right, it's not unreasonable to want your state to be a safer place, but stopping the poor Mexicans from coming in will not solve the security problem. Let our government work more closely with Mexico to stop illegal drugs. By the way, those drug cartels are run by billionaires. They are the killers in more ways than one, not the peons.

Well this is the best perspective I've read so far, Bob. Your humanity, total absence of prejudice and clear thinking are like the healing salve to a painfully inflamed wound.

Thanks Jenn,

You're too kind. I really appreciate your backing. It's so important that we start thinking instead of just reacting to the politicians and the media. I love what you write, and good luck with all your new ventures. As they say "Don't give up your day job".

Great article Robert. I will do everything I can to keep it on the front page. Drugs will eventually be legalized. It takes a long time for higher consciousness to take effect, the consciousness that gives everyone a little space.

Very true Bob, we are a nation of immigrants, the only true native is the American Indian which we deal a hard blow. They should be kicking us out of their country.

Thanks for the feedback, David. I guess if there were more native Americans around they would certainly consider kicking us out. We have not done a very good job of protecting their resources. We've used up almost all the oil beneath the land. It took millions of years to make the oil, we've used it up in about 150 years. Not very good use of resources.

Was everyone so vocal during Mr. Bush's tenure, or did the illegals wait until a Democrat was in office? Nicely done, sir.

Mike, you are so right. Strange how a new prez can bring out enmity that no one ever thought was there. Thanks for the thumbs up.

Good luck

I've seen this question be political for decades. Does no one remember how Reagan gave amnesty to 4 million illegals during his tenure? I thought the states had the rights and duty to protect the safety of their citizens but now it's a national issue. Why?

It's national because someone thought it would be a nice hot issue for the coming election. Beat the drums! Just like who really care about a mosque in NYC, there are hundreds of them and when this election is over, nobody will care or even remember where the thing is. It's election time and it gets peoples minds off the things that are meaningful. These politicians and their lackeys sure know how to get the attention away from the lousy job they are doing.
