The Fat Lady Sings, but It Ain't Over

The other day, President Obama held a town hall meeting. I believe it was in the New York Metropolitan area. He sat with a CNBC moderator, who questioned him and also solicited questions from the audience. One of the audience got up and started talking to the president, telling him that she was tired of defending him. She said that she voted for him and expected change and wasn't getting change. She went on to say that she was from the middle class and she and her husband had worked very hard to get out from under having to eat hot dogs every day and she was afraid that the way the country was going she was going to slide back into eating hot dogs again.
The President warned everyone that it wouldn't be easy and he was right. Now the people want to blame him for the unemployment going over 8.5 %, again he is not a miracle man; he is a bright young thoughtful President who gives his all. He doesn't hide from the truth. The trouble is that the citizens don't want to hear the truth; they act like the other party has some better way of telling the truth. They asked for change, now they want to go back to the old ways that helped get us in this fix in the first place.
America , where are your guts? Whining will get us nowhere. Going out Tea Partying will get us nowhere. Signs and guns and shouting will not solve the problems that we face. Sitting down together as Americans, over time, will solve the problems, as we've always done.

Wow you certainly were outspoken about someone who wasn't thin. Did you know that more calories are packed into food that are economical than those that are "good" for us? Could it be possible that her family has a tendency to expand their girth due to genetics? Even if neither of those things had anything to do with why she weighs what she does, I'm sorry to see you dismissed her simply because of the way she looks. And I'm still trying to puzzle out what she and her weight has to do with the Tea Party.Hi Dixie,
The point that I was trying to make was that she was whining with a "loaf of bread under each arm" (an old Russian expression for people with plenty, complaining), whining about the President not moving fast enough on his promises and that she was tired of defending him. I felt that she was old enough and mature enough to be able to understand that what took 30 years to create (financial crisis), couldn't be unwound in 20 months. I did not dismiss her. She's entitled to say what she wants, but I disagree with her attitude. I did not think that she was fair or thoughtful.
As far as her connection to the Tea Party, I thought that I made it clear that they are both whiners, that's the only connection.Good luck
Very true Bob, give the president a chanceThanks, David. Your comments are always welcome. "Patience is a virtue", a virtue that's disappearing fast.
8.5% is better than what it was when he took office. The banks, and wall street are once again prospering. The people, many of whom are still hurting, and what may yet cost his party the midterms, must be patient, or will wind up from whence he began. Had he gotten the public option on healthcare, and used 1/2 of the bailout money to create jobs, which he was counting on the bailout bums to do ( he should have known better), he would be looking at a landslide victory for midterms. Now he may be forced to work with the inhibitors for the next 2 years, and it could cost him his reelection. That could start this country on a death spiral. Lest we forget, Uncle Thomas (supreme court), would be the deciding vote, were a chad left hanging. :)Yes, David. Somehow we may still get the Democratic base to vote. There are more of us than them, but we have to vote.
Actually, being forced to work with the Republicans may win him a landslide in 2012. They are not the sharpest knifes in the draw. I think we can depend on their stupidity to continue, particularly among the Tea Party candidates. Vote, vote, vote!
Thanks for your comments.Bob
I like your spirit and your point of view. Hopefully America has its quotient of folks like you, instead of folks I suspect. Love the article.Christofer, thank you for your kind comment. I believe that I have plenty of company. I just hope that they vote.
Good luckBob
Yes, Bob, people were happy to vote for Obama when they thought he could save them from having to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Even though he said over and over again this won't be easy. I think he's a truly remarkable man. Great article, thanks.
Obama is the only President I ever gave money to, and I gave him money when I was unemployed. I do art on the side and I took money from every picture I sold and gave some to him. I've given some for this second campaign, and plan to do more. I know my small gifts matter little given the cost of campaigns, but I believe the progressive way is the compassionate way to peace and to rebuild the middle class. I also believe that with a strong middle class and a reduced poverty number in this country that it will be better for rich people. I want to thank you for your work. I've looked at several of your works and plan to read them all. Great job.Tex, Thank you for the kind words. The battle starts again. Lies, money, untrust worthy politicians all the things that are unAmerican. They're bigger than ever in this years race. I also contribute a little bit here and a little bit there, if we all pitch in our little bit it will add up to a lot. The more people we can get involved, even in a small way, the more people will come out to vote in November.
You are right about the middle class, the bigger it is the more they buy, and that's what the rich want. As you can see by the Republican candidate, you can't believe the rich re smart, they're just plain lucky.
Hang in there Tex. I'll start writing again soon, this election is very important.
Good luck,
Bob

, just an old sea dog. He flew B-29's during the Korean conflict. He spent 25 years in Wall Street as a trader. He then went into the corporate world, a very ugly place. Cheating, lying, stealing and bribery were SOP from DuPont to Exxon. He retired in 1990 and went back to trading. Oiy! So then he went to selling computers, it was lonely trading. Selling was more fun. Then he sold Nissans, Hondas, and finally Fords. That was fun. Started to get old so he retired again. Now writing, because he's really irritated with his country's direction as personified by the Republicans & Tea Party horn blowing.
